What is a syringe pump? What should I pay attention to when using a syringe pump?

The syringe pump is composed of a stepping motor and its driver, a screw rod and a bracket, etc., and has a reciprocating screw and a nut, so it is also called a screw pump. The nut is connected to the piston of the syringe, and the syringe contains the liquid medicine to achieve high-precision, smooth, and pulsation-free liquid transmission.

Use caution

1. This device is not suitable for use in the presence of flammable anesthetic gases mixed with air, oxygen or nitrous oxide. Use in the presence of such mixtures may result in an explosion or fire.
  2. To avoid possible malfunction of the syringe pump, do not expose the pump to X-rays, gamma rays, or ionizing radiation, radio frequency interference, or strong electric fields (magnetic fields) generated by diathermy or mobile phones. If the pump is to be used in the presence or in conjunction with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) equipment, the pump must be protected from the magnetic fields produced by such equipment. Failure of the syringe pump can result in incorrect or insufficient infusion, resulting in patient injury or death.
  3. To ensure that the intended injection purpose is achieved, the data must be entered correctly. Before confirming the displayed data, the user should make sure that the data is correct. If the data is incorrect, the pump function will be degraded and the patient may be injured or killed.
  4. Clinicians must ensure that they are within visual and audible range of the syringe pump. In order to be able to react quickly to important alarms. Failure to respond quickly to an alarm can result in patient injury or death.
  5. The user should confirm that the performance provided by the pump is suitable for its intended use and is not used in any way or for any purpose other than for its intended use. Failure to do so could result in reduced pump function resulting in patient or user injury or death.
  6. Do not use the pump in question. If the syringe pump detects a malfunction, the pump will give an alarm and the indicator light will display "Err". If this happens, turn off the pump, disconnect the power, and take it to a qualified engineer. Incorrect performance of the syringe pump can lead to complications that can result in patient injury or death.
  7. Proper handling of battery charging is necessary to ensure that the pump runs on internal battery power for a specified period of time. Failure to properly charge the battery can result in impaired pump function resulting in patient injury or death.
  8. The blockage alarm level must be checked prior to injection to ensure that it meets the injection requirements. Otherwise, the blocking alarm time may be delayed, resulting in patient injury or death.
  9. If a blockage alarm occurs, close the flow regulator immediately, briefly press the syringe plunger release handle to reduce the pipe pressure to eliminate the possibility of the drug being injected into the patient, and then check whether the infusion line is bent, blocked, or the infusion set cap Not enucleated, etc., to clear the blockage before re-injection. Accidental drug injection can cause patient injury or death.
  10. The volume in the connecting line is residual and will not be injected. This extra fluid must be made up when filling the syringe for the first time and emptying the system.
  11. To avoid embolism, it is important to ensure that all air bubbles in the tubing are evacuated before dispensing any medication. The syringe pump has an emptying function to assist in this process. The presence of air in the drug can lead to complications, resulting in patient injury or death.
  12. For safe operation of the syringe pump, the syringe and infusion line must be properly installed according to the syringe installation instructions. Make sure that the rim (flange) of the syringe is properly seated in the groove and that the infusion tube is properly seated in the holder, otherwise, incorrect infusion may result, resulting in patient injury or death.
  13. To avoid siphoning (free-flowing) of the syringe fluid, make sure you clamp the tubing before installing or removing the syringe; make sure the syringe is properly installed on the pump; make sure the syringe's plunger is properly seated in the pump's plunger clamp.
  14. To prevent the pump from falling off the infusion stand or bed rail, be sure to install the pump securely, and be sure to check the safety and stability of the installed pump. Failure to follow this warning can result in damage to the pump and injury to the user or patient.
  15. If a large amount of liquid has been spilled on the pump, wipe it dry and have it checked by service personnel before returning to service. Failure to do so could result in reduced pump function resulting in patient injury or death.
